Why I Nearly “Tossed in the Towel” on Decorative Painting.

by Shirley Miodus, Austin Texas

"The first time I bought a beginning tole design book and tried to paint, I became very frustrated looking for the required colors!!  I drove all over town to different stores every time I wanted to paint any project.  My legs and back ached from standing, sitting, kneeling, and crouching as I looked through rows and rows of badly organized paint racks and I would still be missing 4 or 5 colors.  By then I was just too tired to care about painting the project!!

NOT ONCE - NO NOT ONE SINGLE TIME - did I ever find every color I needed for a project.

After I discovered my local chapter and joined, some of the members said, "No, problem. Just order the paints you need for each project from one of the sites on the internet." So I tried that one time. Never again because the order didn't make it to me in time for the project class I was taking at my local chapter.

Then, I found the TCS Color Match Sourcebook in a local store.  Had it not been for your book, I was on the verge of giving up decorative painting altogether.   I almost didn't rejoin the chapter and national this last year I was so frustrated and that was after paying over a thousand dollars for lessons!!  I was ready to toss out all my design books and just take up crocheting, anything besides decorative painting, and I'm not kidding.
I was sincerely fed up.

I also purchased a VCR tape on “how to mix colors" by Michael Wilcox, author of Blue and Yellow Don’t Make Green.  Between his video tape and your Sourcebook, it gave me the guidance and confidence to learn more about mixing my own colors.  The wonderful TCS identifiers and the way it was explained in the beginning of your book showed me the path to mixing in terms of specific hues, saturation / clarity and value. Now, I am very confident that I can mix any color I want or need.

I would just like to thank you for making the TCS System available.  I feel so empowered now that I have any color I want instantly, at my fingertips.  I simply keep several very common colors on hand at all times….colors that are always available at local stores.

I will always be a devoted TCS fan and highly recommend Bobbie and her products to others.   Had it not been for her book, I would have tossed in the towel on decorative painting."
